Sailing with Skipper

A Skipper as Your Personal Helmsman and Guide

A wonderful sailing holiday without worries, with a skipper as your personal helmsman and guide. Enjoy your sailing holiday while the skipper tells you all about the sailing area. Skippers often have extensive experience and knowledge about sailing. They know the best bays, beaches, and towns and can tell you all about them. No experience is needed for a sailing holiday with a skipper, and you can learn a lot from it.

What Does a Skipper Add to the Sailing Holiday?

The skipper is fully qualified, approved, and above all, an experienced sailor. Many skippers are local sailors in the destination area, allowing them to share a wealth of information about the region. You can benefit from the best moorings, restaurants, and sights. They can also teach you a lot about sailing or boost your sailing confidence. Additionally, an extra pair of hands is always handy for carrying gear and groceries.

Where Does the Skipper Sleep?

During a sailing holiday with a skipper, the skipper should have their cabin in the aft of the yacht. In agreement, the skipper may choose the fore cabin, but generally, the skipper should have a cabin in the aft. They must always have their own cabin; sharing a cabin is not possible.

Does the Skipper Eat with the Crew During the Sailing Holiday?

The skipper must always be provided with food and drinks. You need to keep this in mind when shopping for groceries. If you do not use a grocery service, be sure to ask the skipper if they have any food allergies. You can also take the skipper out for meals. If you prefer not to dine out with the skipper or if the skipper prefers to eat alone, ensure there is a meal available on the boat. You can also choose to give the skipper some pocket money so they can eat out independently. The skipper is then just a phone call away and will return to the boat as soon as possible when called.

Does the Skipper Speak English?

Generally, every skipper speaks good English. The local company often provides the skippers. Tubber also has several skippers, all of whom speak good English. In many cases, the skipper is from the destination country. Skippers are expected to have good English and communication skills, so this should not be a problem during a sailing holiday with a skipper.

Can You Have a Skipper on a Flotilla?

If you are a beginner sailor or looking for an expert or a helping hand, hiring a skipper on a flotilla is possible. If you go on a sailing holiday with just the two of you, you can also opt for skippered sailing. You will have a yacht with a skipper that can accommodate 8 crew members.
