Bavaria 42 Cruiser with 3 Cabins - Sailing Yacht (2005) - NEFELI

Poor Nefeli is a reasonable boat, but had a large number of faults on arrival. On arrival charterer, Constantin, had electronics panel apart- transpired autopilot not really working and the screen was cracked, black and unreadable. On handover the windlass was demonstrated and clearly seen to be rocking about. We questioned the safety of this but were told its OK. On our last day the windlass ripped out of the deck to reveal no washers, just undersized lock nut on one side. Outboard would not start - we were told to take boat to a port town and an engineer would come. We phoned charterer and left message but he never got back to us so it did not work all week. Only 2 curtains on the whole boat in saloon - so cabins light before 6 am No mosquito net/blackout on forward cabin hatch - holes were visible but no blind! Friction Hinge on forward cabin hatch had pulled out of alluminium frame so hatch was either closed or fully open resting on deck Step at companionway entrance missing leaving dangerous trip hazard- apparently replacement is €480 so he’s asked carpenter to do one which will take ages. Would have expected simple ply temporary repair to be in place. Dangerous trip hazard all week. Paserel working but has been twisted breaking the transon GRP Cooker hob in poor condition and often flame burned yellow rather than blue. Was shown how to tap the burner to even the flame out - not ideal and all pans accumulated black soot on bases. Pans and pots not particularly clean and non stick badly scratched Kettle whistle snapped off Both winch handles have no springs to retain in winch Lower safety wire across transom missing Teak on sugar scoop bathing all lifted off and attempt at re siliconing has failed Mooring lines old and frayed no floating lines In mast reefing line frayed in middle making passage through clutch an issue Vinyl covered mattresses- will be horrid when full summer, bad enough when cool nights All bedding smelt smoky on arrival, despite being laundered packs No fans in cabins Trim split and falling off galley porthole Instructed NOT to touch toilet valves- “everyone just flushed to sea”. Constant water in bilges- “we have a plumbing issue and it is still all coming back to sump". Please put manual bilge pump on a few times, but turn it off afterwards” Boat speed stopped working on Wednesday Very very small ancient Garmin GPS at helm - need to take iPad or phone DESPITE the condition of the boat we loved the sailing around Skopelos, Alonissos and the Marine Park. Great conditions, quiet acchorages and great tavernas!
