Book your carefree sailing holiday
Makkum is known as the diverse water sports destination of Friesland. This is because you can lie here on the beach, rent boats of all kinds, and learn wind and kite surfing! Every year, many sailors rent a yacht and explore the natural beauty of Makkom.
Makkum is a small village located on the Ijsselmeer, near the locks of Kornwerderzand. The town is known for its historic center and sights. Moreover, the beach resort is with an associated marina on the west side of the place. For guests from the Randstad, Makkum is easily accessible via North-Holland over the Afsluitdijk. Since the availability of renting boats on the Wadden Sea itself is limited, Makkum is a perfect place to rent a yacht and enter the Wadden Sea quickly.
Sailing in Makkum is, in our opinion, the best choice. Tubber has a wide range of boats, but for a sailboat rental, the diversity id big. You can, of course, also rent a motor cruiser, which makes the inland waterways of Friesland easy to do. Via the Panhuys Canal, you can easily reach beautiful places such as Sneek, Bolsward, Heeg, or Woudsend.
We also offer unique sailing yachts that can dry up. Yachts with a centerboard or retractable keel can be rented in Makkum. That gives sailing on the Wadden Sea a whole extra dimension, drying out has something magical. It brings you to places where you are completely secluded, perfect for social distancing and completely corona proof!
Sailing on the Wadden Sea makes it possible to visit more iconic places. Harlingen is a beautiful place and is especially buzzing at the end of August. Then the Fishery Days are busy and thousands of people come to the place to get enough of the many activities in the city. Furthermore, visiting one of the Wadden Islands is definitely a must. You must contact the relevant marina in advance to be sure of a spot. Anchoring and / or drying up outside the port is also very possible and great fun! Even when you go sailing in Makkum for a midweek or weekend, you can very well visit the islands. From Makkum, it is only a half-day sailing to Texel, Vlieland, or Terschelling.
Depending on the season you are planning to sail in, you will need different clothing and accessories to pack.
If your sailing trip is during the cold seasons, you will need a raincoat, waterproof, and windproof warm clothes and shoes. Woolen garments are preferable as they will keep you warm in windy times.
Things are very different for sailing in the summer season. You will again need a waterproof jacket due to the rainy days that occur, but your summer clothing should include t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops. Remember that it is vital to have good and comfortable shoes onboard! A pair of sunglasses is also handy.
With wind force above six bft it is not recommended to sail!
The rules in the Netherlands apply! This means that you do not need a license for vessels under 15 meters and with a top speed slower than 20 km / h. It can differ per landlord, some ask for sailing license two or a sailing certificate such as a CWO. Ask us for some advice!
