Poor We enjoyed a lovely week of fine weather on a boat that sailed well. We do, however, have a few comments to make about the condition the boat was in when we took it over. The boat had only been cleaned to a mediocre standard, but of course you don’t want to start complaining straight away. The cutlery consisted of knives, forks and spoons, but there were no serving spoons, no kitchen knives and no glasses other than thick beer glasses. You wouldn’t want to drink a glass of wine like that. There was a coffee filter, but no (thermos) jug to make the coffee in. (These items were provided when we asked for them, but should, of course, simply have been on board). There was only one lid for a very small saucepan, not for the other pans. We only realised this when we wanted to cook something the next day. There was a considerable amount of water in the bilge, which we were told was normal and came from the air conditioning. In previous boats we’d hired, there was no water at all, so that was a strange answer. There was a foul smell in both bathrooms, but we thought it would clear up once we’d started using the boat. It turned out later that the drains were blocked. During the week itself, we followed the instructions to the letter and did not flush any paper down the toilet (we own a boat ourselves and know all about it), and we always operated the levers to empty the tanks whilst out in open water. When we returned the boat, we were accused of being responsible for one of the two blockages. We didn’t accept that, and after a phone call with the boss, we didn’t have to pay the blockage fee after all. It was particularly (unhygienic) to see the gentlemen from Yacht4You using the hose intended for filling the fresh water tanks to clear the blockage in the waste water tanks. Defects: The underwater light wasn’t working. On returning to the harbour, we were told that it wasn’t fitted at all. This is, however, mentioned on the website. The anchor light wasn’t working. Neither was the light on the port-side compass. The shower door in the aft bathroom rattled throughout the entire trip. There was a small hole in the wall where a clamp must once have been fitted. The gentlemen carrying out the final inspection did not seem inclined to do anything about this for the next customer. In the photos on the website, you can see four grey cushions in the cockpit, so you can lean against something. There wasn’t a single one, and when we asked for them, it turned out to be quite a hassle. Eventually two turned up, along with a third one that was completely different. We just had to make do with those. All in all, we had a great week on a boat that sailed well. It’s a shame that, as customers, we had to go to so much trouble to get what you’d normally expect when hiring a boat like this. Previous sailing holidays in Kaštela and Zadar were much simpler, better equipped and cleaner.
