Italy should of course not be forgotten among the sailing destinations. Not only the country itself, but also the coastal regions are a real attraction. Italy has the charm of a varied nature, culture, excellent cuisine and the lively temperament of the Italian people. Along the entire eastern coast, plus the islands of Sicily and Sardinia, Tubber offers yachts for bareboat and flotilla hire. In particular, Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast and Sardinia are beautiful destinations that are easy to travel to and where a wide range of yachts is available. Being in the middle of the Mediterranean, Italy has one of the world's best climates for sailing. With rugged cliffs, picturesque coves and beautiful islands such as Elba and Procida, the Italian coast has no shortage of beautiful sights. Are you looking for an unforgettable sailing holiday with delicious cuisine, world famous wines and some of the most iconic sights in the world? Then Italy is the ultimate place to explore by yacht!
Italy has rich coastlines full of beautiful beaches, well-equipped harbors and nice typical Italian towns. The rich history of many occupiers of these regions can still be seen. The Ligurian Sea in the north and towards Tuscany offers many resort towns along the long white sandy beaches. Also from Tuscany, the islands of the Tuscan archipelago, including the island of Elba, are a popular sailing destination. Also around the Gulf of Napoli and the Amalfi Coast on both sides of the Sorrentina Peninsula are many visited locations among sailors. And for good reasons. The multiple islands such as picturesque Procida and green Capri, the breathtakingly beautiful Amalfi Coast and cultural ports in the Gulf of Napoli are all worth a visit. Further south, on the slopes of Italy, you have the most beautiful town of Tropea along the coast of the gods. The islands of Sicily and Sardinia are also beautiful sailing destinations. On the north coast of Sicily you will find the Aeolian Islands and on Sardinia you sail along the beautiful Smeralda coast towards Corsica.
Throughout the year Italy has mild weather conditions with moderate winds. Italy has a Mediterranean climate. In summer the temperatures are between 22 and 28 degrees. For a sailor, this climate is best described as mild. Winds are good early in the year but not too strong, usually between 3 and 5 Beaufort. This makes the Italian waters an excellent sailing area. July and August are the hottest months, but the heat is tempered by the cooling of the wind and seawater. The winters in the north of Italy are colder and the summers warmer than those in the north of Europe. Further south, the climate is much more Mediterranean. Winds such as the Greco, from Greece, occur here, which bring clouds and therefore also rain or snow. But summers in Italy are usually hot, dry and long!
Italy offers ideal conditions for those new to coastal sailing. Gentle winds and good weather promise many pleasant hours on deck. For those who like adventure, the wind can sometimes increase in some places, which makes for a somewhat stronger speed. Crystal clear blue waters give way to white sandy beaches or fantastic cliffs. The coasts offer a pleasant variety of rugged rocks and paradisaical bays. Are you ready for a sailing holiday with the tastiest dishes, wines and most iconic sights in the world? Then Italy is highly recommended!
Renting a sailing yacht in Italy is a great way to see the coastal towns and islands. The Italians also enjoy their water sports in their own way. A few things are important here. Firstly, you should not book a sailing yacht too late, and we don't just say that out of self-interest: the Italians often rent a sailing boat themselves. But they don't do that until the very last minute. So a fleet of rental yachts can be fully booked overnight. Secondly, Italians think that water sports end at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Then they all dash their rented sailboats to the harbour, which then quickly fill up. But there are plenty of good anchorages to be found, whether or not in a quiet bay.
In Italy, some owners ask for a sailing license I and/or sailing license II. But most owners only require experience and ask you to prepare a sailing CV. Tubber can arrange this for you.
Italy is by far the most popular holiday destination in Europe. The country is rich in culture, famous landmarks, known for design, fashion, iconic sights and of course the food! It is also easily accessible by car from within Europe, making it a perfect choice for a secluded holiday. On the road by car, on your yacht and enjoy the peace and solitude together with your partner, family or friends. Italy is of course also easily accessible by plane. Best airports to fly to are for example Pisa, Rome, Napoli, Palermo(Sicily) or Olbia(Sardinia).
There is a sea of possibilities in Italy and we certainly encourage free sailing! But of course, we also like to recommend which places you want to see when you go sailing in Italy.
