Tower of Hercules, Spain

Tower of Hercules Lighthouse SpainWe are starting off with a bang. The Tower of Hercules is an ancient lighthouse that has been guiding sailors since the 1st century A.D. This stunning landmark guard the entrance of La Coruña harbour in north-western Spain. The magnificent 55-meter high tower was built by The Romans. What is even more fascinating is that this lighthouse from Greco-Roman is the only one to have kept a measure of structural integrity and functionality. For these and many other reasons, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

If you love history or if you merely want to see this unique building, view our boats in Spain and remember – our experts are always here to help!

Chania Lighthouse, Crete

Chania Lighthouse in CreteWe continue with yet another lighthouse that has stood the test of time. The Chania Lighthouse in Crete, Greece is one of the oldest ones in the world. It was constructed at the end of the 16th century. However, it did go through some changes. In the 19th century, the current shape was modeled based on the Egyptian Architecture, since at that moment Crete was under Egyptian Occupation. Furthermore, in 2005 the restoration work on it was complete.

Unfortunately, even fully restored it is not opened to the public. However, a walk along the path leading to the place is encouraged. As well as viewing it from your private yacht-like a proper sailor. It is a lighthouse after all, what a better way to see it? Go ahead and check out The Chania Lighthouse on your next sailing holiday in Greece.

Tourlitis Lighthouse, Greece

Tourlitis Lighthouse in GreeceWait! Apparently, Greece has more to offer when it comes to beautiful lighthouses. And this one is entirely unique. This lighthouse is situated off the island of Andros, in the Cyclades. At first sight, The Tourlitis Lighthouse seems like something you can only see in a fantasy film. This is because the original lighthouse and a big part of the rock pedestal it stood on were destroyed during WWII. However, in the early 1990s, it was replaced by a model that now stands on the same rock, which is much smaller, making it look peculiar.

We think that gives it so much charm and it really captures that mystical feeling. Make sure to check it out while sailing in the Cyclades.

Lindau Lighthouse, Germany

Lindau Lighthouse in GermanyThe Lindau Lighthouse is one of Germany’s most iconic nautical landmarks. It is built between 1853 and 1856 guards the harbour entrance of Lake Constance, also known as Bodensee. This 33-meter tall lighthouse is the only one in Bavaria. What’s so interesting about it is that across from it you can see a giant statue of a lion. Overlooking the bay and proudly guarding the passage, this statute creates a magical, almost Narnia like atmosphere. No wonder this is the most photographed place in southern Germany.

The Punta de Hidalgo Lighthouse, Tenerife

Punta de Hidalgo Lighthouse in TenerifeWe showed you some of the most beautiful lighthouses that are recognizable with their classic designs and durability. However, in the end, we also want to show you a more modern beacon that looks more like it came out of a sci-fi movie. The Punta de Hildalgo Lighthouse is precisely that with its innovative design and creativity. This modern creation is situated in Island Hopping Adventure in the Canary Islands.

We hope we managed to give you some inspiration for this summer. As always go ahead and tell us which stunning lighthouse was your favourite on our Tubber are always ready to answer your questions and make sure you enjoy the sailing holiday of your dreams.
