Our partner Euphoria has created a wonderful itinerary for you to discover the beautiful Chalkidiki area. Chalkidiki is located in the northern part of the Aegean Sea. In this area, there are many beautiful coastlines to explore and admire at the peninsulas of Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos with its monasteries on Mount Athos. Sailing from Chalkidiki is an excellent starting point if you want to visit the islands of North Sporades, Lemnos, Samothraki or Thassos. Greece has also grown to become the favourite sailing holiday destination and this is a perfect itinerary to see a lot of the beautiful islands.
Example itinerary Chalkidiki Greece
Day 1 Nikiti via Mt Athos- Small bays of Porto Carras
Just beyond the Porto Carras hotel, the bays are clearly visible from the sea and the marina. There are also a number of small bays here with crystal clear, clean, turquoise water. In these beautiful bays you will also be well protected from the wind.
Day 2 Small bays of Porto Carras - Porto Koufo
En route to the first destination, you can sail through the beautiful islets of Spalathronisson to reach Porto Koufo. Porto Koufo is the best natural harbour in the entire Aegean. The port is sheltered from all weather conditions and is known for its sensational seafood restaurants.
Day 3 Porto Koufo - Gulf of Sykia
The Gulf of Sykia is quite large with plenty of depth in the middle, here you can easily anchor on the sandy seabed. There are also many traditional beach bars here. The name Sykia given to the area has different stories about its origins. Some say it originated because of the shading during sunrise from Mount Athos, others say it derives from the unique flavour of the figs growing in the valley.
Day 4 Gulf of Sykia - The island of Diaporos
Diaporos is a beautiful island which is located on a private bay and surrounded by a natural forest, this is one of the last untouched areas of Chalkidiki. This area is one of the explanations for its amazing pure beauty. Diaporos is located right opposite the village of Vourvourou on the island of Sithonia. It is a wonderful place to explore partly because of its cute houses scattered here and there around the island. The crystal-clear waters provide an opportunity to explore the many reefs during snorkelling sessions. Diaporos belongs to a group of islets along with Kalogria, Ambelitsi, Kalamonisia, Prasonisi, Peristera, and Agios Isodoros. Here there are several secluded coves to explore surrounded by pine trees and sandy beaches. There are no particular difficulties along this route, the waters are clear and the depths are suitable for anchoring.
Day 5 The Greek islands of Diaporos - Amouliani - Ormos Panagias
Swimming is possible in the Alikes (Gulf of Tsarki). In the island's main port, there is no access to water or electricity. The village of Ammouliani is really worth a visit, though. The visit for a day can be perfectly combined with returning to Ormos Panagias for the night. Upon entering Ormos Panagias, there is a reasonable new marina on the left. There are floating pontoons in this harbour where you can find a mooring.
Day 6 + 7 Return to Nikiti via Mt Athos end of cruising route
These last days of the cruising route in Chalkidiki are used to return to the starting point Nikiti. This is a route past Mt Athos that is definitely worth a second admiration. After seven days, you will have sailed a great route and been able to see a lot. If you want to enjoy this beautiful area and this cruising route yourself , rent a boat in Chalkidiki and experience it for yourself.
