Why Sail Around St. Lucia?

No visit to St. Lucia would be complete without experiencing the natural beauty of its many volcanoes and lush rainforests. There's also plenty of other things to do, from simply relaxing on a beach to exploring some of the famous landmarks such as Pigeon Island and the Diamond Botanical Gardens. If you're looking for a unique way to enjoy the islands, sailing is the way to go.

How Long Will It Take To Sail Around St. Lucia?

The average trip around St. Lucia will take you between 7 and 10 days. During that time, you'll visit some of the most amazing beaches, snorkel around stunning reefs and even see some extraordinary wildlife! We also recommend visiting as many ports as possible so you can experience the full variety of St. Lucia's culture.

However, many choose to extend their stay and spend anywhere from two weeks to a few months enjoying the gorgeous islands of St. Lucia. In this article, we'll cover a one-week St. Lucia sailing itinerary that will allow you to truly enjoy the islands.

Day One: Rodney Bay to Pitons Bay

Sailing Time: Approx 2.5 hours

To begin your journey, you'll want to start in Rodney Bay. This area is perfect for exploring the Gros Islet and enjoying local beaches, restaurants, and shops before sailing away from the marina. Along the way, you'll pass by the Pitons and see the mouth of Choc Bay.

Once you arrive in Pitons bay, there are a ton of gorgeous natural wonders to explore. Head over to The Beach At Anse Cochon and check out Ti Manje for delicious Caribbean cuisine or Jade Mountain Club for fresh seafood. When you've filled up from lunch, don't forget to explore the beautiful waterfalls in Pitons where you can have a mud bath or relax in the thermal pools.

Day Two: Pitons Bay To Admiralty Bay

Sailing Time: Approx 10 hours

You'll want to get an early start on the day to head over to Admiralty Bay. Along the way, you'll get to see the enchanting sites of St. Vincent before you arrive at the bay of Bequia. This area is full of activities, offering everyone a bit of fun, whether you want to go snorkeling and hiking or you'd prefer to go shopping and eat at a delicious Caribbean restaurant.

One of the best ways to enjoy this area is to head over to the Turtle Sanctuary located on the northeast coast of the island to learn more about the conservation of the turtles and see rehabilitated animals. If you're looking for something a little more adventurous, consider hiking to the top of the island for gorgeous views.

Day Three: Admiralty Bay To Tobago Cays

Sailing Time: Approx 4 hours

The Tobago Cays is full of natural wildlife, making this a must-see destination. Made up of five completely uninhabited islands, this is a great place to spend the day exploring.

Once you arrive at Tobago Cays, tear yourself away from admiring the beautiful beaches and try snorkeling in one of the many protected reefs around this area to enjoy the tropical fish and sea turtles that live in the area. If you want to enjoy some sunshine, relax at one of the beaches and admire the Baradal's iguanas.

Day Four: Tobago Cays to Salt Whistle Bay

Sailing Time: Approx 1 hour

Located in the southern part of St. Lucia, Salt Whistle Bay is a great spot to go kayaking, hang out on an uninhabited island beach, hike to the top of the hill, or enjoy some sea-kayaking through the marine reserve.

This island features small traditional villages that are lovely to explore or purchase some unique handmade trinkets. You can even have one of the local's grill lobster for you in the stalls along the water for an unforgettable experience on this island.

Day Five: Salt Whistle Bay to Keartons Bay

Sailing Time: Approx 3 hours

Take to the seas and explore newfound treasures in this region of beautiful islands! Then, with a glass or two at your favorite café, you'll be ready for more exploration as it is just steps from shore.

The wind will help guide us north past sprinkled micro-islands scattered across The Grenadines. Eventually, you'll arrive on St Vincent's western coast, where dark volcanic sand awaits at Keartons Bay. This is the perfect area to relax in the sun or take in the views of the luscious green land and turquoise waters.

Day Six: Keartons Bay to Marigot Bay

Sailing Time: Approx 6 hours

Leaving the beautiful Keartons Bay behind, you'll make your way towards St. Lucia for Marigot Bay. Along the way, there are plenty of spots to stop for a quick bite to either discover new highlights or revisit your favorite locations. Pitons Bay is a great area to enjoy lunch as the views are absolutely stunning.

Last day St. Lucia Sailing Itinerary: Marigot Bay To Pigeon Island

Sailing Time: Approx 1 hour

For your final day on the high seas, you'll have plenty to choose from on Pigeon Island! This short 1-hour sailing itinerary features Fort Rodney, which was once used to spy on French ships by the British. After enjoying the island, head back to Rodney Bay to enjoy the beachside once again or enjoy the Rodney Bay Village.
