Tips and tricks

1.Wear comfortable shoes

Girls, no matter how hot you want to look in those 6inch heels, you will be dancing and going around the city all night/day long. Also, there are so many things happening around the city that you will end up getting in those 25.000 steps on your Fitbit.

2. Getting there

From my experience, when you are traveling to Amsterdam for the King's Day trains are going to be crowded as everyone is trying to make their way to Amsterdam.

Tip: After a long night out, if you decide to celebrate King’s Day in Amsterdam take the earliest train or the second earliest. As most of the time they are practically empty (if you’re tired, just take a nap in the train).

3. Wear orange

Yes, you will probably look ridiculous with an orange wig, orange face paint as well as the orange clothing. But who cares? King’s Day is all about having fun, and trust me, you wouldn’t be the only one who is covered in orange from head to toe.

4. Food

I have been celebrating Queen’s day and now King's Day, for the past 4 years. I have to admit, I do think that people have a second stomach only for the dessert, so you should definitely try tompouce. Tompouce is a pastry loaded with cream. Especially for King’s Day it is topped with some orange icing.

5. Money

You can make money during King's Day. As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. All the streets of Amsterdam turn into one big flea market.

6. Boats

All the Amsterdam’s canals are flooded with party boats (gotta say it’s a lot of fun on a boat). However, if you don’t have a boat, missed out on renting a boat or you don’t have that friend who has a boat, you can always enjoy those party boats from the dry land (but it’s not gonna be so much fun)

7. Safety

For safety reasons, don’t be surprised if you will be served beer in a plastic glass, as it’s not allowed to be drinking from a glass bottle or can.

8. Swimming

I know when the weather gets too damn hot, you want to cool down by swimming in the canal. Seriously. Don’t. Like ever.

9. Sleep

Yes, sleep. I would totally recommend getting a power nap before you head out to the city for the King’s Night.

10. Don’t forget to have fun!
