Of course, a truly successful sailing holiday depends on the weather, the sun, the sea and a professional flotilla guide. In addition to conviviality, safety is of course very important during flotilla sailing from Athens. In Athens, the flotilla guidance for this flotilla is in Dutch. Every day you'll receive an extensive briefing about the weather, the route and the best spots for lunch or a swim. There isn't a fixed flotilla guide for every week, so this can vary, but they're all looking forward to giving you a great experience in Greece.

Example route

This route is an example route. The route can be changed based on factors like the weather.

Day 1

Check-in Alimos, Athens
On Saturday you can check in calmly in Alimos after your flight; we don't set sail until Sunday. Take plenty of time for check-in, and perhaps take an Uber into the centre of Athens or Piraeus. Meet-up and reception at Tubber's temporary office at the marina. At 17:00 you can board your sailing yacht or catamaran.

Day 2

Athens - Epidaurus
After the skipper briefing over a good cup of coffee, we set sail. During the day you can anchor in one of the beautiful bays for a lovely swim (sometimes still a bit chilly) or some snorkelling. In Epidaurus you can visit the magnificent amphitheatre, known as the best-preserved theatre from Greek antiquity.

Day 3

Epidaurus - Vathi
In the morning you have time to explore the village of Epidaurus and pick up fresh bread. Around midday we sail to Vathi on the Methana peninsula. Vathi is a picturesque village with plenty of small restaurants. Vathi lies on the open sea, which keeps the water here especially clean.

Day 4

Vathi - Poros
Poros is charming and picturesque; the residents rely on tourism here, but somehow manage to keep it authentic. The small streets are still swept with brooms and dustpans. Here you can rent a scooter or bike to enjoy the view higher up the hill, or take a walk between the old houses under overhanging flowers. Of course there's plenty of time for real Greek cuisine and a drink on a terrace or your own aft deck.

Day 5

Poros - Perdika
Perdika is a village on the beautiful Greek island of Aegina. On the way to Perdika you have the best chance of spotting dolphins. There's enough time to anchor somewhere for a refreshing swim or a delicious lunch.

Day 6

Perdika - Korfos
This small harbour town sits on a beautiful bay. Here you can enjoy the view and the sunset wonderfully from the terrace or your own cockpit.

Day 7

Korfos - Athens
Today we sail back towards Athens. Along the way there's still time to anchor. In the evening there's the option to go out for a group dinner together, so you can enjoy one last shared Greek evening.

Day 8

Check-out
Today is the last day. If you're not flying until later in the day, you can still visit the Acropolis, wander the streets of Plaka, or stroll through the Monastiraki district.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the Athens flotilla depart from?

Surprise, from Athens! The flotilla guidance and most participants depart from Alimos Marina (Kalamaki). However, it's also perfectly possible to start from, for example, Piraeus, Delta, or even Lavrion.

Do I need a sailing licence to join a flotilla?

Not necessarily - if you go bareboat sailing in Greece you're not required to hold a valid sailing licence, although this is increasingly being checked, and it still varies per charter company. If you want to join our flotilla, or sail under the guidance of a skipper on your own yacht, you don't need a valid sailing licence. In any case, we can issue you a certificate (CV) of sailing experience that is accepted locally.

Is the Athens flotilla suitable for children?

Absolutely! Especially in peak season there are many children present and fun activities are planned too. Outside peak season the flotilla has fewer children and there's more focus on activities for adults.

What are the average daily distances of the Athens flotilla?

The average daily distances during the Athens flotilla are between 15 and 20 nautical miles. Outside peak season (when fewer children come along) longer daily distances are often planned. Always subject to weather conditions and the group's wishes.

Which bays, islands and harbours will the Athens flotilla visit?

During the Athens flotilla we visit islands such as Aegina, Poros, Agistri, Dokos and Hydra. On the two-week flotilla we often continue on to Porto Cheli and Nafplion. We also visit bays near Vathy, Perdika and Epidaurus, where you can snorkel wonderfully :)

Do I sail independently in a flotilla, or always with the group?

In the flotilla you sail with the comfort and ease of an experienced mother ship; you're not expected to constantly sail as a group. Feel free to take a dip in a bay you've discovered yourself.
