Lefkas, one of the Ionian Islands, is the perfect destination for a sailing holiday with its famous beaches, whitewashed cliffs and turquoise waters. The island's cool vibes can be found in the coastal towns and villages along its 117km coastline. Nydri and Vassiliki, for example, are unprecedentedly popular among water sports enthusiasts. Moreover, the western side of Lefkas offers beautiful beaches and breathtaking landscapes. The main town at the northern tip serves as the gateway to the island and its nine satellite islands, including Meganissi, Kalamos, Kastos and Skorpios. Sights on Lefkas are not only worth exploring, but also offer a unique experience.

Preveza

Preveza is a city in western Greece with about 20,000 inhabitants. The international airport Aktion Airport is located near Preveza and is mainly used by Lefkada travellers. If you land here and have some time to kill, there is plenty to do. It's lovely to wander through the narrow streets and admire the Venetian clock tower from 1752, the Venetian fort Agios Andreas from the 18th century, and stately mansions from the 19th century. Sightseeing on Lefkada starts on the mainland.

Lefkada Town

Lefkada is the only island on the west side of Greece connected to the mainland by a floating bridge of 50 meters. With easy docking options, sheltered anchorages, and the remaining neighbouring islands within reach, Kefalonia, Ithaca, and many small picturesque islands make for an unforgettable island hopping experience. If you want to have a good meal before your sailing adventure or afterward, we recommend Taverna Eutuxia.

In Lefkada you can also find the most prominent marina of the island, Lefkada Marina and the public marina. Here most of the charter companies are located with their fleet. Therefore, you can best depart here when you wish to explore the Ionian Sea on a sailing yacht or catamaran.

The island of Lefkada

Sprinkled with small villages and coastal towns, the cool vibes of Lefkada can be felt from the north to the south. The main town is located at the northernmost point and is the gateway to the rest of the island. Resorts like Nydri and Vassiliki are popular among water sports enthusiasts, while the west side hides fascinating beaches and breathtaking landscapes. Lefkada has a coastline of 117 kilometers and an additional nine satellite islands, including Meganisi, Kalamos, Kastos, and Skorpios. The latter is the private island of the Onassis family.

Sightseeing on Lefkada primarily consists of visiting its magnificent beaches. Here are some of the best.

The beach of Porto Katsiki

One of the biggest attractions of Lefkada is the beautiful Porto Katsiki beach. The clear water is perfect for diving and snorkelling, and several water sports facilities are available for those looking for a more active holiday.

This coastal town is located in a large and sheltered natural bay on the southeast side of the coast. The island is hugely popular with yacht owners. Sivota is host to some of the most magical white beaches, and conveniently enough, a small harbor that provides safe shelter for your boat. A range of cafes and taverns will satisfy your midday hunger and later on, you'll see the village come to life as the sun sets.

The Count of Orsini built a beautiful fortress from the 14th century. He received Lefkada as a gift from the Franks. When you are sightseeing on Lefkada the Agia Mavra Fortress is one of those sights on that you can't miss when departing from Lefkada Marina. It's an excellent example of fortress architecture and still very well-preserved. Numerous cultural events take place in Agia Mavra during the summer, allowing visitors to experience the fortress from the inside.
